Ferdinand Karl Klimsch

Ferdinand Karl Klimsch (born December 12, 1812 in Böhmisch-Leipa , † September 14, 1890 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German painter , lithographer and engraver . He was the founder of the Frankfurt entrepreneur and artist family Klimsch .

Ferdinand Karl Klimsch comes from a Protestant Bohemian family and first moved from his homeland to Dillenburg in order to open a “lithographic institute” there. In 1837 he moved to Frankfurt am Main , where he worked for Bernhard Dondorf . From 1848 he designed and engraved the motifs of the banknotes for Hessen-Kassel and Hessen-Darmstadt and was also involved in their production on behalf of the Frankfurter Bank. In 1858 Ferdinand Klimsch again founded his own company in Frankfurt's Alte Mainzer Gasse, the Klimsch-Lithographic Art Institute . There he continued his work on banknote production, but also made book illustrations, lithographs, oil paintings and watercolors.
