Fire, water and trombones (original title: Russian Огонь, вода и ... медные трубы , Ogon, voda i ... mednyje truby ) is a Soviet fairytale of 1968, the various characters and stories of the Slavic folklore as Kashchey and the witch Baba Yaga picks .

There is a Russian proverb based on the events announced in the Book of Revelation : “You have to endure fire, water and trumpets.” That means, you have to master the challenges of life, gain experience and strengthen your will.
Meanwhile, the immortal Kashchei wants to marry the daughter of the witch Baba-Yaga. But when he is rejuvenated again by two magic apples, a wedding present, he chases the bride away. While looking for a younger one, one of his servants draws his attention to Alyonushka, who he lets kidnap without further ado. However, she rejects his advertising attempts and is locked in the tower dungeon.
Aljonuschka's lover, the young charcoal burner Wasja, and her goat Bjelotschka set out to free the kidnapped woman and happen to come to the palace of Tsar Fedul VI, who is currently on fire. Wasja can save the tsar's daughter and should therefore marry her. He resigns, whereupon the disguised servants of Kashchei persuade the monarch to have him thrown into the sea as punishment. There Vasja meets the always bored sea tsar, to whom the most beautiful maiden of a coastal country has to be sacrificed every year to dissipate him. Wasja teaches the ruler to read, with which he can pass the time in the future. In return, the Koehler wins the return to the land for himself and the beauties. There he is honored by the whole people and chosen as the future husband of the Tsar's daughter. Wasja let herself be blinded by the “Trumpets of Glory” and became vain. When Bjelotschka steps into the hall during a banquet, he remembers Alyonushkas and sets off again.
From Baba-Yaga he learns how Kashchei can be defeated. Wasja succeeds in overcoming him and freeing his lover. When Kashchei's servants want to appoint him as his successor, he realizes the dangers of fame and flees with Alyonushka and Byelotschka.
Remarks
Fire, Water and Trumpets had its Soviet premiere on December 29, 1968 . It was premiered in the GDR on December 13, 1968 and reappeared in cinemas on October 27, 1989. On television it ran for the first time on December 9, 1984 on DFF 2 on television in the GDR and on April 4, 1994 on German television on ORB .
In the credits of the German version, Wera Altaiskaja is named as the actress of Baba Jaga, but she actually played her daughter.
