Florian Hill (born April 9, 1984 in Weilburg ) is a German mountaineer , adventurer and entrepreneur . He lives and works in New York City and Munich .

life and career

Sports career and expeditions

Florian Hill spent his youth in Olympic boxing as a high-performance athlete . After playing for the German national team , he ended his sporting career in 2003 at the Olympic base in Frankfurt (Oder) . Hill was trained by the former Olympic champion Maikro Romero from Cuba, among others .

At the age of 19 he made his first expedition to the Arctic Circle . Sled dog trips to Alaska and the Yukon Territory , Canada , followed. For professional mushers as Sebastian Schnuelle Hill teams trained for dog sled race Finnmarksløpet , Yukon Quest and Iditarod in the long-distance range and for the Junior World Championships in the sprint area . So-called “extreme alpinism” is currently shaping his undertakings. Hill tries to carry out so-called first ascents in remote mountain regions in Alaska, South America and Asia . For his first ascent on the Illimani south face, Hill and his rope partner Robert Rauch were included in the 2011 shortlist - Significant ascents des Piolet d'Or . In June 2012 Hill was swept away by an avalanche while descending as part of a solo ascent of the 6,190-meter-high Denali and narrowly escaped death. Three US climbers were also involved in the accident. A little later, four Japanese climbers were hit by another avalanche and died in the process.

Professional Activities

Florian Hill studied medical management, but dropped out because of his expedition activities. With a scholarship, he then studied business psychology at the private Fresenius University . As a scholarship holder of the Aspen Institute Germany, he went through a leadership program. Hill founded hillalliance LLC , a strategy consulting firm in New York , in 2012 and worked as a consultant for the European Horizions think tank at Yale University . He is an active member of the German Society for Foreign Policy . As an ideator in event marketing , Florian Hill develops concepts for customers from business, art, culture and politics.

As a freelancer, he published reports for international magazines such as National Geographic and Geo (magazine) . In his role as a brand ambassador, he represented companies such as Adidas and Carl Zeiss . Florian Hill is currently appearing as a brand ambassador for the luxury brand Leica Camera . Hill regularly holds discourses with renowned philosophers and scientists , including the German brain researcher Wolf Singer , which he reflects on in public lectures and discussion events.

Origin and family

Florian Hill grew up in a middle-class family in Central Hesse. His father is an honorary professor in China and a graduate engineer , his mother is a Hessian local politician . Hill's first cousin is the German film director and Grimme Prize winner Kilian Riedhof . His uncle is the former national ice hockey player Anton Hofherr .

Honors

  • In 2016, the regional management of Central Hesse appointed Florian Hill as the official ambassador for Central Hesse as a business and university location .
  • In 2015, Florian Hill was named a Fellow of Jonathan Edwards College at Yale University , alongside Nobel Prize winner Thomas A. Steitz in chemistry and the philosopher Shelly Kagan .
  • In 2003 the municipality of Lahnau honored Florian Hill for special achievements in the field of sport.

  • First ascent of the Djamila route on the Teke-Tor east face (4,480 m), together with Wassili Mariew (RUS), Tian Shan Mountains, Kyrgyzstan , difficulty: V +, M4 +, E4; Wall height 880 m.
  • First ascent of the epic route and first ascent of the southeast face of Taku D Peak in the Juneau Icefield , Alaska . Within 16 days on skis, by fair means and in alpine style . Difficulty: TD-, E5, 550 meters
  • Route variant on Cerro Ramada 6,348 m, together with Alexander Überreiter (Tyrol), Andes , Argentina .
  • First ascent of the Deliver Me route , July 24th to 30th, 2010 on the Illimani south face (6,439 m) together with Robert Rauch , difficulty: VI, WI6, M6 + , E5 ; Wall height approx. 1700 m.
  • First ascent of the route Newfoundland on Condoriri , Diente Blanco (5,250 m), Condoriri group, together with Stefan Berger and Robert Rauch, difficulty: V, WI5, M3 +, E4 in alpine style; Wall height approx. 420 m.
  • First ascent of the Chamaka route on the Serkhe Khollu south-west face (5,546 m) together with Stefan Berger and Robert Rauch in alpine style , difficulty: VII, WI5, M5, E5; Wall height 550 m.
