The Salta Airport (officially Aeropuerto Internacional de Salta Martín Miguel de Güemes) is an Argentine airport near the city of Salta in Salta Province . It is considered to be the busiest airport in Northern Argentina.
history
Construction of the airport began in 1945 under President Perón and was opened in 1949. International flights to neighboring countries have been carried out since the 1950s. As a result, the airport was used during the visit of the Belgian royal couple in 1964 and the visit of Pope John Paul II in 1987. Aeropuertos Argentinas 2000 has operated the airport since 1999 . A new terminal has also been in place since 2000.
The airport is named after the Argentine general Martín Miguel de Güemes , who comes from the city of Salta.
