The Aeropuerto Internacional de Ushuaia Malvinas Argentinas ( IATA code : USH , ICAO code : SAWH ) is the international airport in the city of Ushuaia in the Argentine province of Tierra del Fuego .
General
The name can be translated as Ushuaia-Malvinas Argentine International Airport and underlines Argentina's claim to sovereignty over the Falkland Islands (referred to as Malvinas in Argentine parlance ). The airport was built in 1995 on a raised island and is one of the southernmost international airports in the world. It has a runway that is long enough for wide-body or long-haul aircraft.
The airport is mainly used by the airlines Aerolíneas Argentinas , Líneas Aéreas del Estado and LATAM .
The airport sees itself as the gateway to Patagonia , Antarctica and the Falkland Islands . Not least because of the atmosphere of the interior design , which is made with lots of wood , which is reminiscent of a chalet , the airport is one of the most popular airports in the world and ranked 5th in a 2011 survey.
