Franz Reichert (actor)
Franz Reichert (born October 3, 1908 in Vienna ; † June 28, 1998 ) was an Austrian actor , director, director and theater manager .
Life
Franz Reichert studied with Rudolf Beer at the State Academy for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna . From 1926 he had his first engagements as an actor. He then worked as an actor and director in Zurich, Essen (1929/30 season), Graz, at the Schauspielhaus Bremen as senior director (1936–1941) and at the Nuremberg theater (there as “senior director” and senior director, 1941–1943).
After the Second World War , from 1945 to 1950 he worked as director and senior director at the Hebbel Theater in Berlin, but also staged at other West Berlin theaters, such as from 1950 at the Schlosspark Theater and the Schillertheater .
In the fifties he worked as a guest director on several West German theaters. a. at the Stadttheater Bonn (1950–1951 season), at the Deutsches Theater Göttingen (from 1951), at the Landestheater Hannover (1952–1953), at the Städtische Bühnen Wuppertal (1954–1955) and at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg . In the 1952/53 season he staged as a guest at the Stadttheater Basel .
In 1955 he staged for the first time at the Vienna Burgtheater , where he was also responsible for the repertoire performances as a supervisor from the 1955/56 season. From 1957 until the end of the 1958/59 season he was director and drama director at the Landestheater Hannover . From 1959 to 1965 he worked as a permanent director at the Burgtheater Vienna, where he also held the position of director.
In 1965 he changed to Kurt Ehrhardt as acting director at the Hanover Theater, where he remained in this position until 1973. In Hanover, Reichert devoted himself in particular to maintaining contemporary theater and put plays by Jean-Paul Sartre , Rolf Hochhuth , Martin Walser and Peter Weiss on the program, which he often staged himself. In addition, he continued to work as a guest director.
Reichert staged a broad repertoire that included the classics of theater literature as well as pieces from the turn of the century and the modern era. At the beginning of his directorial activities, he made particular contributions to the anti-fascist piece of the post-war era. Jochanan Ch. Trilse-Finkelstein praises Reichert in the “Lexikon Theater International” as a “director who comes from the literary and who is faithful to the text”, and whose productions are “manageable, cleverly planned, precisely crafted”.
Reichert staged a. a. Plays by Shakespeare , Goethe , Schiller , Hebbel , Strindberg , Bertolt Brecht and Fritz Hochwälder . In the field of contemporary theater, he realized works by authors such as Friedrich Dürrenmatt , Martin Walser, Peter Weiss and Sławomir Mrożek in his productions .
Reichert was married to the Austrian chamber actress Sigrid Marquardt (1924-2016). He was buried on July 10, 1998 in the Hietzinger Friedhof (group 15, number 8E).
