Karl Friedrich Christian Freiherr von Steinaecker (born February 25, 1781 in Brumby ; † March 11, 1851 in Halle (Saale) ) was a Prussian infantry general .

Life

The Steinaecker family comes from Westphalia and Johann Georg von Steinaecker (1690–1729) died as a Prussian captain . Friedrich was the son of Friedrich Wilhelm von Steinaecker (1745-1824) and his wife Josepha Henriette Wilhelmine, née Freiin von Blomberg (* May 4, 1749, † July 16, 1818). The father was a lieutenant . D. , most recently in the cuirassier regiment "von Dalwig", as well as district administrator in the Calbe district and Herr auf Brumby. His brother Heinrich (1782–1862) was Colonel z.D. and finally in command of Kolberg . His younger brother Heinrich Bruno (1788–1861) became major general .

Military career

Steinaecker was brought up at home and entered the infantry regiment of Prince Louis Ferdinand on February 1, 1795 as a private corporal . There he was promoted to Second Lieutenant in October 1797 . In 1803/05 Steinaecker was the prince's adjutant . During the Fourth Coalition War he fought in the Battle of Auerstedt and came after the Peace of Tilsit in mid-September 1807 as Premier Lieutenant in the Blücher Corps. At the end of the year Steinaecker was transferred to the 1st Pomeranian Infantry Regiment . On May 4, 1812 he was promoted to staff captain and took part in the fighting near Eckau during the Russian campaign in the same year . He was awarded the Pour le Mérite order for the battle at the Klievenhof forestry department .

On April 20, 1813 Steinaecker was transferred to the 5th Reserve Regiment as captain and company commander . During the Wars of Liberation he was awarded the Iron Cross II. Class in the Battle of Großbeeren and he received a commendation for Dennewitz . He also took part in the battle at Coswig. With his promotion to major , Steinaecker was transferred to the 5th West Prussian Landwehr Infantry Regiment on December 20, 1813. This was followed by a service in the 4th Infantry Regiment from March 14, 1814 to March 17, 1816 . He then worked on foot in the 2nd Guards Regiment and was transferred to the 34th Infantry Regiment as commander on June 20, 1817 . In the same capacity Steinaecker was from March 17, 1820 for two years in the 35th Infantry Regiment . With a patent from April 9, 1822, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 30, 1822 and appointed commander of the 36th Infantry Regiment . On June 18, 1826, he received the service cross . On March 30, 1828 he became a colonel with a patent from April 4, 1828. On March 30, 1829 Steinaecker came as a commander in the 22nd Infantry Regiment . Five years later he was appointed commander of the 15th Landwehr Brigade and on March 30, 1835 he was promoted to major general. On March 30, 1840, Steinaecker was entrusted with the leadership of the 10th Division and at the same time appointed First Commander of Posen . He was appointed division commander on September 10, 1840 and on March 22, 1843 he was promoted to lieutenant general . On the occasion of his 50th anniversary in service, King Friedrich Wilhelm IV honored him with the award of the Order of the Red Eagle 1st Class with Oak Leaves. On May 30, 1850, Steinaecker took his leave with the statutory pension , conferring the character of General of the Infantry . He died on March 11, 1851 in Halle.

General Peter von Colomb wrote in 1847 about the Lieutenant General: “As a man and a soldier, he is equally respectable, he is dutiful in the extreme sense of the word, prudent, very independent and determined. Through these qualities, which are combined with a good education, business knowledge, and military views as clear as they are practical, he exerts an excellent influence in all respects on his subordinates and fulfills his position to the fullest. The circumspect activity with which he made during the last troubled incidents about the security of the city and fortress cannot be praised enough. He is perfectly suited to a higher position. "

Steinaecker married Gerhardine Henriette Freiin von Gall on November 22, 1826 in Darmstadt (* May 10, 1803, † January 31, 1877). The couple had several children:
