Johann Friedrich Graf von der Betten (born May 25, 1769 in Langwedel (Weser) , † May 22, 1840 in Ringelheim ) was a Hanoverian general field master in the Napoleonic War and diplomat.

Life

Friedrich von derdeck comes from the old Lower Saxon noble family von derdeck , from which many Hanoverian officers came. In 1784 he joined the army . He took part in the First Coalition War 1793–95. In 1796, ceiling became chief adjutant of Duke Adolph Friedrich von Cambridge , to whom he lectured on mathematics and history. In 1803, during the French occupation of the Electorate of Hanover, Betten joined the diplomatic service . On July 28, 1803 he began to recruit foreign soldiers for the British crown and thus founded the King's German Legion , with which he was used in the war between Great Britain and France in 1805 and 1807.

He was sent to Spain and Portugal as a diplomat and military advisor in 1808 to raise troops against France. He then returned to Great Britain. In the summer campaign of 1815 , he was a lieutenant general commanding the Hanoverian Reserve - Corps with four brigades under Lieutenant Colonel Christian Ernst August von Bennigsen, Lieutenant Colonel Karl von Beaulieu, Lieutenant Colonel Karl von Bulow and Colonel Rudolf Bodecker.

After the war and the Congress of Vienna , von derdecke took over the supervision of the newly founded artillery and engineering school in Hanover , rejected military awards from the Netherlands and Prussia, but was given over in 1833 by the English - Hanoverian King Wilhelm IV (lasted from 1714 to 1837 the personal union of Hanover and Great Britain ) raised to the hereditary count status. In 1817 he acquired the former Benedictine monastery in Ringelheim and expanded the castle and park into his estate , where he retired from 1833. Most recently, in 1835, he founded the Historical Association for Lower Saxony and took over the presidency.

From the ceiling was considered a friend of the Prussian military reformer Gerhard von Scharnhorst . The two published a military journal.

Friedrich married Antoinette von Gruben (1781–1855) in 1806 . She was heiress to Wechtern VI, today's ceiling house, in Krummendeich . Her children were Adolphus , the heir to Ringelheim , George Ayhsford, the heir to ceilinghausen, and Juliane. Juliane married Ludwig Frhr. von Minningerode (1806-1853).
