The 1974/75 season of the Oberliga was the first season of the Oberliga as the third highest division in football in Germany after the introduction of the two-track - later single-track - 2nd Bundesliga for the 1974/75 season.

For the time being, a major league , the Oberliga Nord and Oberliga Berlin, was introduced again only in Northern Germany and Berlin . In the other regions of West Germany , the amateur league, which is comparable to today's association leagues, continued for four years before six amateur leagues were introduced there in the 1978/79 season .

The Oberliga Nord comprised the North German Football Association with the football associations Schleswig-Holstein , Hamburg , Bremen and Lower Saxony .
