Polish games

In 1978, as in 1974 , the World Cup was held in two final rounds. The winners of the second final round groups qualified directly for the final without the semi-finals. The World Cup third in the 1974 World Cup Poland was drawn into Group 2 as opponents of the world champions Germany for the opening game. This draw promised a high-class opening game, as the third place in the World Cup and the defending champion of the last World Cup in 1974 met each other. However, the game had few highlights and disappointed the audience immeasurably.

•  Poland  : Mexico 3-1 - Goals: 1-0 Boniek (43rd min.), 1: 1 Rangel (52nd min.), 2-1 Deyna (56th min.), 3-1 Boniek (84th min.) .) 

Poland finished the first round as first in the group ahead of Germany .

In the second final round, Poland played in Group B against:

•  Poland  : Peru 1-0 - Goal: 1-0 Szarmach (65th min.)

After losing to Brazil , Poland was eliminated from the tournament as third in the group.
