Gary Jerome McGhee (born October 28, 1988 in Anderson , Indiana ) is an American basketball player . After studying in his home country, McGhee turned pro in Europe. After a season in Turkey , he played in the German basketball league for the BBC Bayreuth in the 2012/13 season , before returning to the basketball league for the MHP Giants Ludwigsburg in December 2013.

Career

McGhee went to study at the University of Pittsburgh in 2007 , where he played for the university team Panthers in the Big East Conference of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) together with the future Bundesliga player Brad Wanamaker . The Panthers were able to qualify for the national NCAA finals in each of their seasons and made it into the quarter-finals of Elite Eight in 2009 , in which the top-seeded team in the "Regional Finals" was narrowly defeated by the Wildcats of Villanova University , in which Dwayne Anderson and Reggie Redding were also two later Bundesliga players. McGhee had his strengths with the Panthers mainly in the " Defense " and is ranked among the ten best " Shotblockers " of all time of the Panthers with 114 blocks in his four-year college career.

After completing his studies, McGhee was not selected in the 2011 NBA Draft by any club in the most highly endowed professional league, the NBA , and began a professional career in Europe. In the preparation for the season he had a trial contract with the Croatian champions KK Zagreb , which however dissolved his contract. Then McGhee moved to the Turkish first division promoted Kırmızı from Bandırma , but in his first season in the Türkiye Basketbol Ligi paid apprenticeship and after only four victories of the season as bottom again relegated. With 7.8  rebounds per game, fifth-best rebounder in the Turkish league, McGhee then moved to the German basketball league for first division club BBC Bayreuth, who finished the 2012/13 BBL season in 15th and fourth from last place. For the following season McGhee moved to France and joined the first division club BCM Gravelines from Dunkirk in the LNB Pro A for the 2013/14 season . There, however, his contract was prematurely terminated in November 2013 after seven missions and McGhee moved back to Germany, where he joined the MHP Giants Ludwigsburg for the rest of the season, ending the 2013/14 BBL season in eighth place and in the first The play-off round for the German championship at the eventual title winner FC Bayern Munich failed.

For the 2014/2015 season, McGhee first got a contract in Romania with runner-up CSM Oradea . There he remained without engagement and in mid-November moved to Kosovo to the master KB Sigal in the capital Pristina , where he replaced his namesake Aaron McGhee. A month later he moved to Lugo for the Spanish second division club Breogán. The team lost the league cup of the LEB Oro Copa Príncipe de Asturias at the end of January 2015 with 69:78 in the first round of Palencia Baloncesto . Also in the play-offs for promotion you had to admit defeat Club Ourense Baloncesto in a maximum of five games in the final series . For the following season McGhee moved to Rhodes , where he played in Greece for the club Kolossos in the top division Basket League . The team reached the play-offs for the championship in seventh place in the Basket League 2015/16 , in which they lost to Panathinaikos Athens in the first round .

To Basketball League 2016/17 returned McGhee returned to Germany and was the first division of Walter Tigers Tübingen contracted.
