Gerard (* 1987 in Wels , Upper Austria ; real name Gerald Hoffmann , formerly Gerard MC ) is an Austrian rapper and songwriter . He is the founder and was managing director of the creative content company Futuresfuture until the end of February 2020, which includes a music label and management as well as shares in other projects and companies.

As Head of A&R at Four Music ( Sony Music ), he has been jointly responsible for the creative and strategic direction of the label since March 2020 .

Life

At the age of 16, Gerard released his first track Disappointments in 2003 on HipHopConnection Tape Vol.3 . His first maxi-plate print / every night appeared in 2005 on the traditional Viennese label Stiege 44 , on which, among other things, Kamp's first publications appeared. The second mixtape he recorded with Bonz was called Most Loved, Most Hated / Voageschmock and was also released in 2005. After moving to Vienna in 2006, he joined the hip-hop association Rooftop Clique . In early 2007 Gerard MC released his debut album Rising Sun , which was released in Austria as well as in Switzerland and Germany . This was followed by numerous live appearances at major festivals, including the Donauinselfest in Vienna ( FM4 stage), as well as an appearance at Europe's largest hip-hop festival Splash! in Leipzig.

In the late autumn of 2009, his second LP called Blur followed , which received positive reviews in the specialist press - such as in Europe's top-selling hip-hop magazine Juice . On the day of its release, the sound carrier was at number 2 on the iTunes album charts in Austria. However, it was not enough for a placement in the Austria Top 40 sales charts. In May 2010 he drew attention to himself in Switzerland with a feature with the Swiss rapper Gimma on his album Unmensch . The album entered the Swiss sales charts at number 13. At the beginning of 2011, the German rapper Prinz Pi took him as a support act on his “Tour de Prince”, which led through Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In addition, both the Juice and the Bravo Hip Hop Special named him “New Hope - Top 5 to watch” and “German rap's future”. In April 2012, Toni Tell released an album in collaboration with Gimma , which was only available in Switzerland. The album was produced by the Austrian producers Brenk, Fid Mella, Mainloop and Clefco, while the Swiss Claud was responsible for the radio single Alles . The album debuted at number 31 on the Swiss album charts.

In an interview with the Swiss hip-hop portal Aightgenossen , Gerard announced that he would henceforth be active without the “Mc” appendage, i.e. only under “Gerard”. In mid-2012 Gerard successfully completed his law studies in Vienna, but decided against a legal career and from then on devoted himself exclusively to music. At the end of August 2012, Gerard released the first single Lisbon from the new album Blausicht . In Juice's 2012 review of the year, the song was ranked 9th among the “best national songs”, while it was ranked 3rd among the “best national songs” at the 2012 Hiphop.de Awards. This was followed by a tour through Germany as the opening act for the German band Die Orsons , as well as the second single Sometimes , which was produced by DJ Stickle .

Beginning 2013, Gerard found among others in the list of "hot newcomer least 2013" the radio station 1 Live and Internet music channel Tape.tv . His album Blausicht was released in the same year and entered the Austrian album charts at number 11. In Germany, the album was able to position itself at number 27 in the charts, while in Switzerland it was at number 66.

The work was described by the critics as a “musical highlight” (Juice) as well as “ Europe's most conclusive cloud rap draft to date ” (hhv-mag.de). From the point of view of the editor Simon Langemann from the Laut.de e-zine, for example, the skillfully “dosed mixture of different influences” results in a “highly modern sound costume that clearly stands out from the German rap average in terms of both quality and innovation”. In the list of the best “Hip Hop albums of the year” 2013 by Juice , Blausicht was placed 7th. This was followed by two largely sold out “Blausicht” tours in November 2013 and February 2014 through Germany, Austria and Switzerland, as well as an appearance on the television program Circus HalliGalli .

In 2014 Gerard made his acting debut in the short film I see a darkness alongside Jasna Fritzi Bauer . The film premiered at the Noida International Film Festival in India, where it won the award for best short film.

The album Neue Welt was released on September 4th, 2015 . The video for the single level fall was the world's first video, in which the Google Deep Dream technique was used. Since the deep dream effect could only be applied to images up to that point in time, each individual image, i.e. each frame of the video, had to be processed individually with the algorithm. Like its predecessor, the album was able to place itself in the top 20 of the Austrian album charts and top 30 of the German album charts. The accompanying New World Tour stopped in 17 cities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

At the beginning of 2017 he founded the creative content company Futuresfuture together with Ilias Dahimene, who with " Problembär Records " (including " Wanda ") and " Sea you Records " (including 5 KHD ) two other labels as well as "Redelsteiner Dahimene" (including Stefanie Sargnagel ) runs a book publisher. Up to now, the Futuresfuture-Rooster with Gerard himself includes a total of 12 artists: Bitten by, Edwin, Einfach so, Farce, Jugo Ürdens , Little Element, Miblu, Mister Me, MP, Naked Cameo and the Schönbrunn Gloriettenstürmer.

In the summer of 2017 he released his album "AAA" as the first release of his new label, whereby the album title has a variety of interpretations such as u. a. "Everything at the beginning", "Different from everything" or "Access All Areas" allowed; The latter, above all, in connection with the form of the release: the album could only be purchased in a box, with a passport including a mobile phone number, on which one can follow the development of new Gerard music using demos and voice messages. The AAA tour led through Germany, Austria and Switzerland at the beginning of December.

Since 2019 Gerard has also worked as an author and composer for other artists. For example, he is co-writer for Mathea's single "Chaos" , which was awarded a gold record in September 2019 and a platinum record in March 2020 . He worked as a songwriter with Alma , JR Blender and the Jugglerz , among others .
