The Gmina Kolno is a rural municipality in the Olsztyński powiat of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in Poland . Your seat is the village of the same name ( German Groß Köllen ) with about 550 inhabitants.

The municipality is located in the middle of the voivodeship - in the historic Warmia, annexed by Prussia in 1772 . Neighboring municipalities are Bisztynek in the north, Reszel in the east, Sorkwity in the southeast, Biskupiec in the south and Jeziorany in the west. The town of Reszel (Rößel) is five kilometers to the east, the district town of Olsztyn (Allenstein) about 30 kilometers to the southwest.

In the west of the municipality lies the approximately 690 hectare Jezioro Luterskie and in the south of the area a number of much smaller lakes.

history

The municipal area belonged to the Olsztyn Voivodeship from 1946 to 1998 with different layouts. The rural community was dissolved into different gromadas in 1954 and re-established in 1973. She came to the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship and Powiat Olsztyński in 1999, each newly established.

In 2006 the Kolno community entered into a partnership with the Belm community in the Osnabrück district .
