The Gmina Nidzica [ ɲiˈʥiʦa ] is an urban-and-rural municipality in the powiat Nidzicki of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in Poland . The seat of the Powiat and the municipality is the city of the same name ( German Neidenburg ) with 13,762 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2019).
geography
The municipality is located in the southwest of the voivodeship. The border with the Masovian Voivodeship is five kilometers away. Olsztyn (Allenstein) is about 30 kilometers north. Neighboring communities are the communities Olsztynek in the north, Jedwabno in the northeast, Janowo in the southeast, Janowiec Kościelny in the south and Kozłowo in the west.
The community has an area of 378.9 km², 38 percent of which is used for agriculture and 49 percent for forestry. The river Nida (Neide) runs through the west of the municipality. The north belongs to the Allenstein Lake District and is rich in smaller lakes. The region belongs to the south of the East Prussian Oberland .
history
The rural community was newly formed in 1973 from various gromadas . Urban and rural communities were merged to form urban and rural communities in 1990/1991. From 1946 to 1998, its area belonged to the Olsztyn Voivodeship in various forms. The powiat was disbanded from 1975 to 1998. On January 1, 1999, the community came to the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship and again to the powiat Nidzicki.

traffic
The main road is the S7 expressway ( European route 77 ) from Gdansk to Warsaw . In addition, the voivodeship roads DW545 (Jedwabno– Działdowo (Soldau) ), DW538 (to Łasin (Lessen) ) and DW604 (to Wielbark (Willenberg) ) meet in Nidzica .
Long-distance trains on the Działdowo – Olsztyn line stop at Nidzica station . There are stops in Dobrzyń and Bujaki. - The Nidzica – Wielbark railway line with its stop in Napiwoda is no longer used regularly.
The nearest major international airport is Warsaw .
