Gustav Adolf Peter Adam von Bennigsen (born December 14, 1790 in Hameln , † January 9, 1867 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

His parents were Rudolf Gustav von Bennigsen (1766–1800) and Sophia Rother. He received his nobility legitimation from King Friedrich Wilhelm III. on November 27, 1819.

Military career

Bennigsen joined the Magdeburg Fusilier Brigade of the Prussian Army as a private corporal in 1805 . In the Fourth Coalition War he fought in battle near Spandau, joined the Blücher corps as an ensign and was made inactive after the battle of Lübeck .

On January 1, 1808 Bennigsen was employed as a second lieutenant with a patent from May 1, 1807 in the 1st Pomeranian Infantry Regiment and took part in the campaign against Russia in 1812 . He fought near Eckau , Dahlenkirchen, Kyopen and Ruhenthal. After his return he was aggregated on foot to the 2nd Guards Regiment on July 29, 1813 . During the Wars of Liberation Bennigsen was wounded and praised in the battle near Lüneburg . He took part in the battle at the Nettelnburg lock , was promoted to prime lieutenant and fought near Dresden , Nollendorf and Leipzig . Bennigsen was awarded the Iron Cross II Class and the Order of St. Vladimir IV Class for his behavior in Paris .

On March 18, 1816 he became a captain and company commander in the Guard Regiment. With his promotion to major on March 30, 1828, he was appointed commander of the III. Battalions in the 2nd Guard Landwehr Regiment. From April 3, 1829 to March 29, 1839 Bennigsen commanded the 1st Battalion. Awarded the Order of St. Anna II. Class with Crown, he was then Lieutenant Colonel and battalion commander in the Emperor Alexander Grenadier Regiment . On September 10, 1840 he was promoted to colonel before he came to the Neisse fortress on March 25, 1841 as second in command . In the same capacity, Bennigsen was transferred to the Glogau fortress on April 7, 1842 , to be appointed commandant of the Spandau fortress on March 22, 1843 . There he received his departure on October 7, 1845 with the character of major general and pension .

He moved to Berlin, died on January 9, 1867 in Berlin and was buried on January 11, 1867 in Nieder Neuendorf (Osthavelland district). The tombstone is on the north wall in the village church.

Bennigsen married on June 24, 1820 in Berlin Emilie Le Clerc (1803-1835), the daughter of the merchant and councilor mason Johann Christian Le Clerc. She was buried on April 23, 1835 in the Mairenfriedhof at Prenzlauer Tor. The couple had several children:

On December 28, 1835 Bennigsen married in Vienna (St. Peter) Maria Countess von Klenau-Janowitz (1801-1870), widow of Joseph Siegmund von Riesch († 1833) and daughter of Johann von Klenau . This marriage was divorced on March 10, 1847. On October 17, 1848, he married Dorothea von Schack (1797–1886), widowed von Levetzow, in Nieder Neuendorf .
