Heiner Meyer
Heiner Meyer (born October 9, 1953 in Bielefeld ) is a German Pop Art artist and sculptor.
Life
Meyer was born to the Bielefeld hotelier Günther Meyer and his wife Gertrude. He became interested in art and started painting himself. In 1972 he had his first solo exhibition at the Bernhard Hüning gallery in Münster. This was followed by stays in London and Cadaqués in 1973 and 1974 . In Cadaqués Meyer was an assistant to Salvador Dalí .
In 1977 Meyer began studying fine arts at the Braunschweig University of Fine Arts , where he was made a master class student in 1981. A year later he was the winner of the Art Prize of the Lower Saxony Lottery Society. In 1983 Meyer was given a teaching position at the Braunschweig University of Art. In the same year he married Brigitte Worbs, with whom he has three children. He set up his first own studio in Bielefeld.
From 1986 to 1990 he taught at the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences in the field of visual communication. In 1987 he received the Ebernburg grant from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.
From 1993 he was funded by the Ministry of Culture of North Rhine-Westphalia. In 1996 Heiner Meyer received a travel grant for Japan from the Goethe-Institut Kansai. In 2004 Meyer moved into a larger studio, in which he still works today. His works have been shown in 100 exhibitions, including trade fairs in Seoul, Paris, Miami Beach, Bologna and Chicago.
The artist lives in Bielefeld. Works by Meyers are u. a. owned by the University of Fine Arts Braunschweig, Fundació Miró, Barcelona / E, Deutsches Postmuseum, Frankfurt / M., Contemporary Art Museum, Miami / USA, Museum for the Principality of Lüneburg, Lüneburg and Collection of German Photo Days, Frankfurt.

Meyer's current works are part of Pop Art . Earlier pictures by Heiner Meyers show women like Aphrodite , Hera , Athene and figures from the ancient world of gods and legends. He then painted divas, vamps, stars, starlets and pin-ups , as well as Grace Kelly , Liz Taylor , Jacqueline Kennedy, Penélope Cruz , Paris Hilton , Victoria Beckham , Heidi Klum .
The works of the Bielefeld artist often show opposing elements. He occasionally combines the representational and the abstract as well as different techniques by combining painting with photography . This aspect becomes clear in his series "Reloaded". A picture by the artist usually includes a pretty, mostly scantily clad woman, a luxurious car, elements from the casino world such as dice, playing cards and chips, diamonds, designer pumps or other luxurious items, cartoon characters, flowers , chocolates, elegant lettering, Promotional items or slogans, strong colors and elements such as dots, balloons, speech or soap bubbles.
Sculptures
Meyer also designed and designed sculptures and bronzes . As in painting, he initially dealt with ancient sculpture and architecture . In his paintings and also in the form of sculpture, the painter and sculptor shows rudiments of monuments drawn by time , which have lost their original context and have lost their genuine function.
Today the themes of his work as a sculptor have changed and developed alongside the change in art . Like his paintings, his sculptures and bronzes belong to the genre of Pop Art . Works include, for example, a bronze from Hermés' Birkin Bag with the title "Most wanted". Another project are Meyer's Botox boxes, a screen print on wood with the botox motif.
