The Helme bei Martinsrieth is a nature reserve in the town of Sangerhausen and the communities Wallhausen and Brücken-Hackpfüffel in the association community Goldene Aue in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in Saxony-Anhalt .

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG 0363 is around 40  hectares in size. A large part of it is part of the FFH area “Helmeniederung water system”. The area has been under protection since 2003 (date of regulation: February 18, 2003). The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Mansfeld-Südharz.

The nature reserve is located southwest of Sangerhausen in the Goldenen Aue , the flat valley floodplain of the Helme in the border area between Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia . It protects a section of the helmets with their bank areas above and below Martinsrieth as well as the areas between the helmets and the small helmets, which are mainly characterized by extensively cultivated grassland . In the river bed of the Helme there are shallow-flooded gravel beds that serve as a spawning area for the barbel , a species of fish threatened with extinction in Saxony-Anhalt . In addition to the barbel, the river lamprey and bullhead as well as the river mussel also live in the river section . The banks of the river are structured varied and are of natural softwood residues, bushes and Hochstaudenfluren accompanied. In addition, pollarded willows and hedges can be found in the nature reserve.

In addition to the fish species already mentioned, the nature reserve is home to various birds , including the great gray shrike , kingfisher and bag-titan, as well as various dragonflies , including the threatened helmets maid .
