The Saurasen is a nature reserve in the town of Arnstein in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in Saxony-Anhalt .

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG 0077 is 32.79  hectares in size. It is located within the "Harz and Vorländer" conservation area . The area has been under protection since May 1, 1961. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Mansfeld-Südharz.

The nature reserve is located northwest of Mansfeld in the Harz / Saxony-Anhalt nature park (Mansfelder Land) . It places a near-natural grove and woodruff beech forest with a high proportion of sessile oak on the high plateau of the Katzenberg immediately west of the village of Saurasen. In the herbaceous layer of the Hainsimsen-Buchenwald grow u. a. Whitish grove rims , hair grove rims , mountain pea and snake curls . On lean locations also is blueberry find while growing in damp locations Waldrispengras. The herbaceous layer of the woodruff beech forest is characterized by golden nettle , fescue with different leaves, giant fescue , single-flowered pearl grass and lily of the valley .

The deciduous mixed forest has a high scrap wood share and is a habitat for Bonelli , buzzard , honey buzzard and the cavity nesters black woodpecker and Dove .

The nature reserve borders on federal highway 242 in the south . It is crossed from southwest to northeast by a high-voltage line road.
