The Schießberg is a nature reserve in the town of Arnstein in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in Saxony-Anhalt .

The nature reserve is located between the Arnstein districts of Sandersleben (Anhalt) and Wiederstedt in a small side valley of the Wipper . Approximately in the middle of the nature reserve there is an abandoned limestone quarry in which the layers of the Lower Muschelkalk are exposed . The quarry is partially full of water. Along a trench crossing the nature reserve, a rest of alluvial forest made up of poplars , willows , bird cherries and a layer of bushes rich in species has been preserved. In the north-western part of the nature reserve, the rest of the alluvial forest is adjoined by a wood made of common ash , willow, black elder , hawthorn , common hazel , oak , norway maple and field elm .

The nature reserve is the habitat of numerous species of birds , including red-backed killer , nightingale , various warbler species , dunnock , song thrush , wryneck and puffy tit . Various amphibians live in the former quarry , including the common frog , common toad and pond newt . The still water in the quarry is also home to a significant occurrence of the threatened mildew . A former tunnel in the quarry serves as a quarter for the bat species broad-winged bat , water bat , pipistrelle and brown long-eared bat .

The nature reserve is surrounded by agricultural land . In the south it borders on Landesstraße 152.
