The Othaler Forest is a nature reserve in the community of Allstedt in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in Saxony-Anhalt .

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG 0367 is around 173  hectares in size. It is almost completely part of the FFH area "Der Hagen and Othaler Holz north of Beyernaumburg". The area has been under protection since 2003 (date of regulation: December 15, 2003). The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Mansfeld-Südharz.

The nature reserve is east of Sangerhausen . It puts oak-hornbeam and oak-red beech forests under protection in the gently rolling hills of the southeastern Harz foreland. The sessile oak oak forest complexes are sometimes several centuries old. The shrub layer is made up of common hazelnut , hornbeam and winter linden . In the middle of the protected area, in a heavily wetted spring basin area, a scrub forest with alder and ash trees grows .

The forests in the nature reserve are characterized by a high proportion of old and dead wood . This provides a suitable habitat for numerous insects and birds . So here are z. B. red kite , honey buzzard , common raven , different types of woodpecker , including gray and medium woodpecker , treecreeper , nightingale , thrush , wood warbler , chaffinch and wren can be found. The forest edges offer u. a. Great gray shrike , red killer , goldhammer and various warbler species suitable habitat. Water bodies and damp areas in the nature reserve are the habitat of crested newts and pond newts , tree frogs and fire salamanders . In the nature reserve also come bat species lesser noctule , mouse ear and Bechstein's bat before.

The nature reserve is cut through by a district road between Sangerhausen and the Allstedt district of Beyernaumburg, as well as a high-voltage road running parallel to it . In the north it borders on the Halle – Hann railway line. Münden and in the northeast to a state road running between Riestedt and Beyernaumburg . The nature reserve is largely surrounded by agricultural land . Only in the northeast are further forest areas beyond the main road.
