The Hackpfüffler See is a nature reserve in the communities of Brücken-Hackpfüffel and Wallhausen in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in Saxony-Anhalt .

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG 0271 is around 90  hectares in size. It is partly part of the FFH area "Helmeniederung water system". The area has been under protection since 2001 (date of regulation: December 27, 2001). The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Mansfeld-Südharz.

The nature reserve is located southwest of Sangerhausen between Hackpfüffel , a district of the municipality of Brücken-Hackpfüffel and Riethnordhausen , a district of the municipality of Wallhausen on the northeast edge of the Kyffhauser on the border between Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia . It puts an old side valley of the helmets under protection with various natural and cultivated biotope forms , which is drained via a ditch to the small helmets. In the nature reserve, for example, there are still waters created by sinkhole events , moist tall herbaceous meadows , forest borders , inland salt meadows and grassland areas used as hay meadows .

The areas along the ditch are often wet and are occupied by reed beds made of reeds . The banks of the still waters are also lined with reed beds.

Extensively farmed grassland is predominant in the south and north of the national road 220, which crosses the nature reserve. The grassland areas are partially structured by rows of trees and hedges . In particular, the rows of trees in the south of the protected area are made up of poplars and pollarded willows, in whose area orchids occur, including small-leaved and broad-leaved sitters , pale forest birds and large two -leaved . In addition to the above, there are also old wood stocks with oak , ash , willow , sycamore maple and poplar as well as small shrubbery with plums , pears , black elder , hawthorn and blackthorn .

In the north of the nature reserve there are inland salt pits with valuable salt plants such as small-flowered salsify, beach milkweed and beach trident .

The reed beds in the nature reserve are various species of birds as habitats, including ponds and marsh warbler , reed bunting and marsh harrier , which also breed here. The wooded areas are u. a. habitat for cuckoo , oriole , fitis , chiffchaff , puffy tit and various warbler species. In addition, the nature reserve u. a. also used by swallows , swifts , white storks and tufted ducks for foraging. The nature reserve also offers a suitable habitat for various dragonfly species . So here was z. B. the Great Royal Dragonfly proven.
