Helmut Branny

Helmut Branny (* 1957 in the GDR ) is a German conductor , double bass player and professor of chamber music at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden . He is a member of the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden , musical director of the Dresden Kapellsolisten and the Cappella Musica Dresden .

Career

Helmut Branny, born in 1957 in the Saxon Ore Mountains , studied from 1973 to 1979 at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden , majoring in double bass . Subsequently, he was signed to the Saxon State Orchestra Dresden .

Since 1994 he has been leading the Dresden Kapellsolisten . With the chamber orchestra he made guest appearances in Europe and Asia a. a. in the Berlin Philharmonic , Cologne Philharmonic , Milan Scala , Warsaw , Zagreb , Tokyo , Osaka , Seoul as well as at festivals such as the Rheingau Music Festival , Kissinger Sommer , MDR Musiksommer , Festival Mitte Europa , Janáček Music Festival, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Walkenrieder Cloister concerts .

Soloists such as Alison Balsom , Albrecht Mayer , Martin Stadtfeld , Matthias Goerne , Gábor Boldoczki , Nils Mönkemeyer , Dorothee Oberlinger , Sergei Nakarjakow and Lise de la Salle have also performed under his direction . In addition to his membership in the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, he has been teaching at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden since 1995 and has been a professor for chamber music since 2003 . His engagement in Dresden led him a. a. to the Frauenkirche , the Dresden Music Festival and the Moritzburg Festival . Helmut Branny and the Dresden Kapellsolisten have had a longstanding artistic relationship with the Dresden Kreuzchor . He is also the musical director of the Cappella Musica Dresden, founded in 1995.

He is also a chamber music partner of the Berlin Academy of Early Music , the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra , Central German Baroque Soloists in Leipzig and "Les amis de Philippe" Bremen . Artistic projects connect him u. a. with Peter Schreier and Jan Vogler . In addition to his preoccupation with early music , Helmut Branny also deals with contemporary music . So he brought some works of the composer Rainer Lischka, Takashi Jashimatsu or Berthold Paul for premiere and interpreted Wolfgang Rihm and Kazimierz Serocki.
