The Henschel Schauspiel Theaterverlag Berlin GmbH ( proper spelling henschel SCHAUSPIEL ) is a theater publisher based in Berlin , which grants rights of use for dramatic works to theaters, private and public broadcasters and film production companies.

The publishing house represents more than 900 authors, including many foreign-language authors (e.g. Sergi Belbel , Dario Fo , Coline Serreau , Biljana Srbljanović ), with a total of more than 2000 works. The repertoire also includes the dramatic world literature from antiquity to the twentieth century in carefully edited and modern German-language translations. Literarily challenging adaptations of fairy tales and plays for children and young people form another important program area of ​​the publisher.

The more than 500 radio plays, the rights of which are owned by Henschel Schauspiel, include original radio plays, children's radio plays, prose adaptations as well as German-language and international plays that have been set up for radio.

Henschel Schauspiel currently represents around twenty screenwriters and film directors (including Jo Baier , Andreas Dresen , Thomas Heise , Stefan Kolditz , Regine Kühn and Laila Stieler ) and supports them in the development of film material.

The publishing house exists as an independent authors' publishing house in the form of a GmbH; it currently belongs to around 100 partners with equal rights. It was founded in May 1990 on the initiative of authors (including Peter Brasch , Volker Braun , Christoph Hein , Peter Ensikat , Heiner Müller , Bernd Schirmer , Georg Seidel , Lothar Trolle ) and translators (including Fritz Rudolf Fries , Maik Hamburger , Thomas Reschke , BK Tragelehn ). Its forerunner was the Henschel Verlag, founded in Berlin in 1946 .

Wolfgang Schuch and Andreas Leusink managed the publishing house from 1990 to 2001. Andreas Leusink and Alexander Zschiedrich have been running the business since January 1, 2017.
