occupation

Herr Lehmann is a German tragic comedy by the director Leander Haußmann from 2003 . It is based on the debut novel of the same name by Sven Regener .

action

West Berlin shortly before the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. Frank Lehmann will soon be 30 years old and his friends jokingly call him “Mr. Lehmann”. He works as a bartender and thus makes ends meet. Nobody can suspect that the Kreuzberger Kieztrott will soon be turned upside down by the fall of the wall . The first visit of his parents to Berlin threatens Lehmann to plunge into a minor crisis. Because the supposed expectation of your son's career and his actual, rather leisurely everyday life are in stark disproportion. His everyday life in the neighborhood in general and his still young love for Katrin in particular are already enough challenges for him.

Locations

Most of the time the film takes place in well-known locations in Berlin-Kreuzberg . The film was shot in the Prinzenbad near the Prinzenstraße subway station , in the pub “Zum Elefanten” on Heinrichplatz , in the kebab shop “Mısır Çarşısı” on Skalitzer Straße at Kottbusser Tor or in “Madonna” on Wiener Straße . Further scenes were created in the area around Oranienstrasse . The scenes in the "Markthalleenkneipe", Erwin's bar, were shot in Cologne film studios. The film scene in the cinema was shot in the Filmrauschpalast of the Moabit culture factory . Other scenes that cannot be seen in the final version but only on the DVD under "Deleted scenes" were filmed on Kurfürstendamm and at the Wittenbergplatz underground station .

The other outdoor scenes were not recorded at the original locations , but in the large open-air backdrops on the premises of Studio Babelsberg in Potsdam , where director Leander Haußmann had already shot his first feature film "Sonnenallee" .

Reviews

“The episodically structured film depicts Kreuzberg as an entranced, narcotized parallel universe full of beer drinkers who do not want to grow up; but the staging is not able to convert the material into a replica of left-wing myths, but rather fizzles out into insignificance. "

Awards

At the 54th German Film Prize in Berlin in 2004, the film was awarded two Lolas in Gold, for Detlev Buck as Best Supporting Actor and for the best screenplay by Sven Regener.

At the Bavarian Film Prize 2003 Christian Ulmen was named Best Actor.

The German Film and Media Assessment FBW in Wiesbaden awarded the film the rating “particularly valuable”.

Others

In 2010 the prequel Neue Vahr Süd was published , which deals with phases from Frank Lehmann's life as a 20-year-old.
