The Herz-Jesu-Kirche is a Roman Catholic parish church in Landsweiler-Reden , a district of the Saarland community of Schiffweiler , district of Neunkirchen . She bears the patronage of devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus . In the list of monuments of the Saarland the church building is a single monument listed.

history

The parish church Herz Jesu was built in the years 1897–1900 according to plans by the architect Lambert von Fisenne ( Gelsenkirchen ). But Wilhelm Hector ( Saarbrücken-St. Johann ) is also mentioned as an architect.

The consecration of the completed church was made on 6 May 1900's. The consecration by the then Bishop of Trier Michael Felix Korum took place on July 22, 1903. When one of the worst firedamp explosions in Prussian mining history occurred at the Reden mine in 1907 , killing 150 miners, the church was the site of the funeral service.

In the course of time, numerous renovations were carried out on and in the church , which was also due to mountain damage . To secure and stabilize the church building, anchors and a large steel net were installed in the interior at times.

The church building has been undergoing restoration since 1999 .

Architecture and equipment

The church building, which was built in the neo-Gothic style, is a three-aisled basilica . The nave , divided into a central nave and two lower aisles , is divided into three bays . A transept adjoins the nave and a five-sided choir with a polygonal finish. This results in the shape of a Latin cross as a floor plan . The ceilings of the three naves are formed by ribbed vaults. In front of the nave is a church tower with a pointed helmet .

The furnishings from the time of construction have largely been preserved. Noteworthy are the three windows in the choir , as well as the late Gothic altar of the Marienkapelle by Hans Steinlein ( Eltville am Rhein ). Other items of equipment worth seeing, all of which date from 1900, are the Pietà by the sculptor Fritz Ewertz ( Münster ) in the entrance area, the baptismal font also in the anteroom , a gift from the Neunkirchen hut owner Stumm , the Joseph altar and the figures of St. Barbara and St. Aloysius .

A granite block replaced the high altar in the choir before the Second Vatican Council . From parts of the former communion bench that separated the choir from the rest of the church, carpenter Manfred Schorr made the celebration altar set up in the crossing .

organ

The organ of the church (Opus 324) was built in 1906 by the Johannes Klais Orgelbau company ( Bonn ) as a two-manual instrument with 30 registers . In 1974 there was a rescheduling by Hans Gerd Klais. The cone shop instrument set up on a gallery has a pneumatic play and stop action . The disposition is as follows:
