The song I don't know who I belong to celebrated its premiere in the crime film Storms of Passion by the German director Robert Siodmak . The film premiered on January 22, 1932 in Germany. The interpreter of the song was Anna Sten in her role as "Russian Anna". It was written by the German composer and songwriter Friedrich Hollaender together with the German screenwriter Robert Liebmann . Hollaender was responsible for the composition, while Liebmann wrote the text for it. Hollaender was also responsible for the entire film music for Storms of Passion , the script for the film came from Liebmann. Musically, the song can be assigned to the chanson . It is based on two stanzas and a chorus . The song begins with the first verse followed by the chorus. The same process is repeated with the second stanza. The song ends with the second chorus. The two stanzas are each composed of eight lines written as cross rhymes . The refrain also consists of an eight-liner, the first part of which is also a cross rhyme. The first two lines of the second part of the chorus form a pair rhyme , the two subsequent lines at the end of the chorus do not rhyme; they are the only lines of the text that do not rhyme. In terms of content, the song is about a woman who does not want to commit to a man. She defends her attitude, among other things, with the argument that the sun or the stars also belong to everyone. |
