Identification Commission

The Identification Commission (IDKO) of the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) is a commission that meets in the event of a disaster with a high number of victims in Germany or a disaster with German victims abroad to identify them . It not only includes police officers, but also forensic doctors , dentists , psychologists , pastors and autopsy assistants (a total of around 140 employees). The IDKO, founded in 1972, is called Department KT 11 and belongs to the Forensic Institute department. The IDKO is the central office of the criminal police in the Federal Republic of Germany for the identification of dead.

Awards and honors

For its work during the tsunami catastrophe in Southeast Asia in December 2004, the IDKO, as a representative next to the THW and the Red Cross, received a Bambi in the engagement category for the aid organizations .
