Jake Andrew Odum (born February 11, 1991 in Terre Haute , Indiana ) is an American basketball player who, after studying in his hometown, played professional basketball in Europe . After Odum was initially active in Greece , he played in the German basketball league for medi Bayreuth before moving to the basketball league in 2016/17 to rival s.Oliver Würzburg.

Career

Odum grew up in his hometown in " Hoosier State" Indiana, which is known nationwide for its enthusiasm for basketball, on the border with Illinois . After high school, he got a scholarship to Indiana State University in his hometown, where he was active from 2010 for the college team Sycamores in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) of the NCAA , which once Larry Bird in 1979 in the final of the national NCAA finals Had led. After he had stayed the first year of study as "redshirted" won Odum 2011 in his freshman season review ten years after the last title of the Sycamores in MVC championship tournament right away the final tournament of the Conference, as one of the main round First Missouri State Bears , where the later Bundesliga player Kyle Weems was also active, just defeated by four points. Freshman Odum was able to convert important free throws in the "crunchtime" of the last two minutes of the game , after which the Sycamores were able to qualify for the NCAA finals for the first time since 2001. In the nationwide final round, however, the team lost the opening game clearly with 17 points difference against the Syracuse Orange , for which Odum's teammate James Southerland was active in his second season. Subsequently, the Sycamores missed further successes in the MVC in the following three years, whereby they were runner- up in the final tournament of the Conference, which is also called " Arch Madness" based on the March Madness , in 2014 and the final with 14 points difference 69:83 lost to the Wichita State Shockers , who were unbeaten in that season , when the later Bundesliga pro Tekele Cotton was named MVP of the final tournament. This was no longer enough to qualify for the national NCAA finals, instead the Sycamores played in the postseason in the less important National Invitation Tournament or CollegeInsider-Tournament (CIT), where they also lost the opening game three times in a row. After Odum played the maximum possible full four college seasons, unlike Larry Bird, for example, he was only active for the Sycamores , he tops numerous team-internal all-time leaderboards of Indiana State, such as completed games, games in the starting five (in only three He came into play from the bench), minutes used, and tried and scored free throws. In the basket assists he was all-time second, in the ball wins third and in points scored at the end of his college career fifth (as of 2019: now sixth) in the Sycamores' best list .

After completing his studies, Odum was not selected in the 2014 NBA Draft and could not be recommended for a professional contract in the national basketball association with the highest endowment in his home country, although he was in the NBA Summer League for Indiana Pacers and Sacramento Kings , where he played with Brendan Lane , among others , was active. Finally, Odum signed his first professional, long-term contract in Europe with the Greek first division club PAOK from Thessaloniki . In the continental club competition Eurocup 2014/15 , the team reached the second group stage of the best 32 teams, in which, however, they could only achieve one victory in six games. In the national championship of the Basket League 2014/15 PAOK was able to improve to third place in the main round, but was eliminated again in the play-off semi- finals without a win against Panathinaikos Athens from the race for the championship. Instead, the Macedonians were able to secure third place in the "small final series" ahead of local rival Aris Saloniki . Odum was not able to convince completely in his rookie season in Europe due to the rather moderate field throw rates and moved to the basketball Bundesliga 2015/16 in Germany to the club BBC medi from Bayreuth . The Bayreuthers improved to twelfth place in the final table, but missed the play-offs for the championship after only twelve wins this season. Odum was regarded as one of the team's better players and was then the Frankish rivals s.Oliver Baskets from Würzburg to Basketball League 2016/17 obliged the Premiership in his return had reached equal to the play-offs.
