Jamie Hector (born October 7, 1975 in Brooklyn , New York City , New York ) is an American actor with Haitian roots. He gained fame primarily through his roles in the series The Wire and Bosch .

life and career

Jamie Hector was born in 1975 in Brooklyn, New York to Haitian parents. He began auditioning for the Community Theater Company right after graduating from high school. During his time in college, he was already booked in several series in guest roles, including New York Undercover , Law & Order and Third Watch - Einsatz am Limit . In 1998 he was seen with his second role in front of the camera in a film, so he took on a small role in Spike Lee's Game of Life . After graduating from college, he studied at the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute .

In 2002 he was seen in the gangster film The Streets of Harlem . He subsequently took on supporting roles in The Fast Live , Everyday People , Brooklyn Bound and Joy Road . In 2004 he was cast in the role of drug lord Marlo Stanfield on the HBO series The Wire . He played the role in over 30 episodes until 2008. His character was ranked # 2 of Best TV Villains of All Time by Rolling Stone Magazine in 2016 . This was followed by guest roles in Jericho - The attack and The Game . In 2008 he took on a supporting role as the Haitian criminal Lincoln Deneuf in the film Max Payne . From 2006 to 2008 he took on a supporting role as Benjamin 'Knox' Washington in the series Heroes , parallel to his work on The Wire .

In 2009 he starred in the drama Night Catches Us , opposite Kerry Washington and Anthony Mackie in a leading role. Subsequently, his subsequent film appearances were mainly limited to short and independent films . He also appeared in series such as Mercy , Lie to Me , CSI: Miami , TRON: Der Aufstand , Person of Interest and Power . In 2013, Hector starred as Nick in the US-French feature film Blood Ties .

Between 2014 and 2017 he was part of the cast of the drama series The Strain as Alonso Creem . Also in 2014, Jerry Edgar played a leading role in the Amazon Studios series Bosch , which he has played since then. From 2017 he played Devon Finch in the second season of the series Queen of the South . In the 2017 biopic All Eyez on Me , he played Mutulu Shakur , the stepfather of Tupac Shakur , played by Demetrius Shipp Jr. , in 2019 he took on a supporting role in the web series Wu-Tang: An American Saga .

In addition to his acting activities, Hector also lends his voice to characters from video games. His work includes The Warriors , Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories , Halo: Reach or Dishonored 2: The Legacy of the Mask .

During his time at the theater company Tomorrow's Future , Hector founded the non-profit organization Moving Mountains in Brooklyn, which aims to pave the way for young people to enter the world of stage and film performance. At the beginning of his career, he took acting classes at the William Esper Studio during the day and passed what he had learned on to young people in the evening.

After the devastating earthquake in Haiti in 2010 , he collected donations for the people in his home country.

Hector is married to Jennifer Amilia. A characteristic scar runs down his left cheek.
