Kateryna Ihoriwna Koslowa ( Ukrainian Катерина Ігорівна Козлова , English transcription Kateryna Kozlova ; born February 20, 1994 in Mykolaiv ) is a Ukrainian tennis player .
Career
Koslowa mainly plays on the ITF Women's Circuit . So far, she has won five singles and 13 doubles titles at ITF tournaments .
After gaining initial experience on the ITF tour in 2009, she started there in 2012 by winning three tournaments, including the first title in a $ 50,000 tournament in Kazan . At the French Open , she made her debut in the qualifying field of a Grand Slam tournament the following year, but was eliminated in the first round. In Baku she then reached the main round for the first time at her first WTA tournament and was able to record her first victory there at the start against Eleni Daniilidou .
In 2014 she won the ITF tournament in the $ 50,000 category in Versmold and, the following year, after a first round win in Dubai, she reached the top 100 in the world rankings for the first time . Then it became known that the performance-enhancing substance dimethylbutylamine was detected in a doping sample taken from the Ukrainian woman in Dubai . At the hearing, she stated that she had unwittingly ingested the substance through a medically prescribed supplement. Since the ITF could not find any willful misconduct, their doping sentence was reduced to six months.
When she returned to the women's tour, Koslowa was able to seamlessly build on her rising results from the beginning of the year and reached the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament at the US Open for the first time , but lost to Bethanie Mattek-Sands in the first round. In the 2016 season she reached the semi-finals of a WTA tournament in Istanbul for the first time and ended the season in the top 100 in the world for the first time. Her first win in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament at the 2017 US Open against Irina-Camelia Begu was followed by her biggest title to date at a tournament in the WTA Challenger Series in Dalian . In the final she defeated the former world number two Wera Swonarjowa and remained without a set loss throughout the tournament.
In early 2018 she reached her first WTA final at the Taiwan Open , but had to admit defeat Tímea Babos in straight sets. She then achieved her highest position in the world rankings with place 62. At the French Open 2018 she caused a surprise when she eliminated the defending champion Jeļena Ostapenko in the first round and thus won her first win against a top 10 player. But in the following game she was already defeated by Kateřina Siniaková in three sets. In 2019, Koslowa finished her fourth season in a row in the Top 100, after reaching the third round in Indian Wells and Madrid , among others .
In February 2015 she competed for the Ukraine in the Fed Cup for the first time ; in the encounters against Bulgaria and Liechtenstein she was able to win both singles. Since then, she has played seven matches in singles and doubles for her country, of which she has won four (individual balance 3: 2).
