The Cooper Nuclear Station ( english Cooper Nuclear Station ) is in Brownsville in the US state of Nebraska area.

history

The block was built from 1968 and went online on May 10, 1974. The power plant is operated by the Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD).

The power plant is named after Guy Cooper and Guy Cooper Jr. from Humboldt, Nebraska, in recognition of their contribution to the Nebraska public power grid.

In June 2011, the power plant was flooded by rising levels of the Missouri. US President Barack Obama declared the state a state of emergency and freed up federal funds for relief measures. The water level reached almost 13 meters on June 19, 2011; the operators had to give an “indication of an unusual event”, the lowest of four warning levels. At a level of 13.90 meters, the nuclear power plant would have to be taken off the grid.

In March 2019, an even higher water level was measured during floods and preparations were made for shutdown. The power plant could no longer be reached by land and helicopters had to take over the transport of workers, but the critical water level was not reached.
