Block 1
Unit 1 is a General Electric boiling water reactor with a net electrical output of 1059 MWe and a gross output of 1139 MWe. Construction began on March 1, 1976; it was synchronized with the power grid for the first time on August 1, 1986, and went into commercial operation on December 20, 1986. The natural draft wet cooling tower is 165 meters high.
The issued operating license expires on April 11, 2026, which is why the operator applied to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for an extension of 20 years on August 18, 2009 .
Incidents
After the simultaneous failure of two reactor cooling pumps, a reactor shutdown occurred on October 5, 2015.
