The Palisades nuclear power plant ( English Palisades Nuclear Generating Station ) has a pressurized water reactor that was built by Combustion Engineering . It is located in Covert Township ( Van Buren County ) on the east bank of Lake Michigan in the US state of Michigan .
history
Construction of the nuclear power plant began in 1967 and went into commercial operation on December 31, 1971.
For the techniques used when replacing the two steam generators in 1992, Bechtel received the NOVA Prize from the Construction Innovation Forum.
In 2004 the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) approved a net power increase of 1.4% from 780 MW to 792 MW.
The operating license issued originally ran until March 24, 2011. An application made in 2005 to extend the operating license by 20 years was approved by the NRC on January 17, 2007, so the license will run until March 21, 2031.
The power plant was sold by Consumers Energy to Entergy in April 2007 for $ 380 million . On December 8, 2016, Entergy announced that it would shut down the power plant on October 1, 2018 for economic reasons. At the end of September 2017, the operator finally announced that the system should remain in operation until spring 2022.
