Kirejewsk ( Russian Кире́евск ) is a city in Russia with 25,557 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010). It is located in the Tula Oblast , just under 40 km southeast of the regional capital Tula .
history
The place has been known since the second half of the 18th century. It was founded by Cossacks as the village of Kireevskaya . In the 19th century, the industrial extraction of iron ore began in the vicinity of the village, with the iron being supplied mainly to the Tula arms factory. In the 1920s, brown coal deposits were developed near Kireevsk . This led to an expansion of the place by moving miners. In 1956 Kireevsk received city status.

Economy and Transport
There are several industrial plants in the city today, including a metalworking plant, a chemical plant, a furniture factory, and several food and textile factories. The main industries in the vicinity are lignite mining and agriculture . The M4 trunk road runs about ten kilometers east of the city . The nearest train station is in the city of Uslovaya, 20 km east of Kireevsk.
