Bolochowo ( Russian Болохово ) is a city in the Tula Oblast ( Russia ) with 9622 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located about 20 km southeast of the oblast capital Tula on the Olen river , between the Upa and its right tributary Schat in the river system of the Volga .

history
A village belonging to the Bolchowski princely family on the site of today's town has been known since around 1580. In the 19th century the name Bolochowka was common.
In 1934, one of the largest shafts in the Moscow lignite basin was opened nearby and named after the village of Bolochowski . The associated miners' settlement received the status of an urban-type settlement in the same year and in 1943 the city charter under its current name.

Economy and Infrastructure
After the cessation of coal mining in the 1990s, there is still a machine factory in Bolochowo ( Gefest AG ; equipment for the food industry and rail vehicle construction), a plastics and furniture factory and a metal construction factory.
The city lies on the railway line Vyazma - Tula - Uslowaya - Ryashsk, opened in 1874 (station name Prissady ; route km 315).
