history

Yasnogorsk railway station

The city of Yasnogorsk is mentioned for the first time in written documents from the 15th century, at that time as a settlement called Laptewo , which was probably named after a local lord with the family name Laptew. In 1867 Laptewo gained some importance in the construction of the railway line from Moscow to Tula and further south to Kursk ; a train station was built here, which subsequently also served as a transshipment point for timber transport. In the 1880s, the merchant Ippolit Golowin founded a factory here to manufacture agricultural machinery. It was not until 1958, however, that Laptewo officially became a town and in 1965 it was finally given the “melodious” name of Jasnogorsk - literally translated as “cheerful town”.

Infrastructure

In today's Jasnogorsk, the machine factory, which emerged from the Golovins plant, is the most important industrial enterprise. The city is characterized by more rural, predominantly wooden buildings. The station of Yasnogorsk with the reception building from the 19th century is a stop for local trains from Moscow, Serpukhov and Tula.
