Norihito Kobayashi ( Japanese 小林 範 仁 , Kobayashi Norihito ; born May 4, 1982 in Akita ) is a former Japanese Nordic combined skier .
Career
Norihito Kobayashi has been practicing his sport since 1995. He is a student and lives in Sapporo . He started for the Tokyo Biso Ski Team . Kobayashi made his World Cup debut in February 2000 as 21st in a competition in the Gundersen Method in his hometown of Sapporo. At the 2001 World Junior Championships in Karpacz , he won the Gundersen method competition in 2001 and came third in the sprint. In Lahti he was then used in the 2001 Nordic World Ski Championships in the sprint, which he finished in 33rd. The 2002 Junior World Championship in Schonach was less successful in 2002. In the Gundersen competition he was 14th and sixth with the Japanese season. Better it ran for the Japanese in the 2002 Olympic Games of Salt Lake City . In Soldier Hollow , he finished 17th in the sprint. After the games, Kobayashi started almost exclusively in the B World Cup until the end of 2005. The Nordic World Ski Championships in 2003 in Val di Fiemme were also unsuccessful. Although he was sixth with the Japanese season, but in the Gundersen competition he was only 26th and in the sprint he finished 43rd.
His international breakthrough had Norihito Kobayashi before the 2006 Olympic Games of Turin . In Harrachov he came fourth in the sprint for the first time under the top ten, in the Gundersen competition he was also ninth. At the Olympics he reached 16th place in the Gundersen competition in Pragelato shortly afterwards and was 18th in the sprint. With the relay he finished sixth. In more than 70 World Cup starts, Kobayashi has made it into the top ten nine times. At the 2007 home world championships in Sapporo , he was eighth with the team, 25th in the Gundersen competition and placed 26th in the final sprint. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Liberec in 2009 he achieved his greatest success when he was able to prevail in the photo finish as the final runner in the 4x5 km relay against the German Tino Edelmann and thus led the Japanese combined team to gold. In the two Gundersen competitions he was fifth on the normal and 16th on the large hill, while he reached 17th place in the mass start competition.
At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , Kobayashi took seventh place in the individual on the normal hill and 27th place on the large hill. With the team, he finished the team competition in sixth place. After the games he got two more points in Lahti and Oslo , which brought him 22nd place in the overall World Cup.
The following 2010/11 season was his farewell season from the international combined World Cup. In the first 10 World Cup races, he made it into the points only three times. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 2011 , he again missed a good placement as 35th on the normal hill. Only with the team did he achieve a good placement in sixth on the normal hill and fifth on the large hill. After a further 20th and a 40th place at the World Cup finals in Lahti, he finished his last season as 38th in the overall World Cup ranking.
