The National Technical University "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute Ihor Sikorskyj" (KPI) ( Ukrainian Національний технічний університет України "Київський політехнічний інститут імені Ігоря Сікорського" , English: National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" ) is the leading technical university in Kiev , Ukraine . The common international name is National Technical University of Ukraine - KPI (NTUU "KPI") .
overview
The founding of the university in 1898 was made possible by funding from the sugar magnate and philanthropist Lasar Brodskyj . The first rector was the Russian engineer Viktor Lwowitsch Kirpitschow . At the time, university operations consisted of four departments: Mechanics , Chemistry , Agriculture, and Engineering . 360 students were enrolled in the first founding semester. Today the number of students is around 40,000, of which 1,000 are from abroad. Over 4500 students graduate each year. Full-time study takes five years and 6 months.

In 1930 , the Kiev Institute of Construction, now the Kiev National University of Construction and Architecture (KNUCA), was founded by KPI and the Architecture Department of the Kiev Art Academy .
The university has a small polytechnic museum on campus, which can be visited by everyone on weekdays. Admission is free.
