course

The Länggenbach rises at Bruederberg and above Weiningen at 475  m above sea level. M. in a valley between the Altberg in the north and the Hasleren in the south. The source is in the Buacher corridor directly on Wiesentäliweg near the target stand of the Wiesentäli rifle house. It is located in the Langenmoos meltwater channel , through which several meltwater streams drained during the Würm glacial period .

Initially straightened, it flows around 30 meters south to the forest on Hasleren, then around 80 meters southeast within the edge of the forest, before flowing north for around 30 meters, reaching the western border of the Langenmoos spring moor . Here it is fed by a large groundwater surge before it flows southeast through the wetland in a natural stream bed lined with dense reeds. For a short section, the stream splits into two strands, which together pass the Wiesentäli rifle house and then reunite. Shortly afterwards, the Länggenbach flows into the north-western bank of the approximately 0.4 hectare large, artificially created Great Pond . Here it takes up the Hochrütibach , which rises on the Altberg and flows into the northeast bank of the pond.

The Länggenbach leaves the pond at the east bank of culverts and underpasses while the Haslerstrasse before he reached a small grove where he comes back to the surface in a pond. It continues to flow to the southeast, initially along the western, then along the southern border of the cemetery. The forest turns into dense wood, which now stretches along the stream. At the southeast end of the cemetery and directly at the parking lot, the Chürzibach flows into the Länggenbach from the left . Shortly afterwards it is overturned and follows Friedhofstrasse to the south, with the Folenmoosbach flowing into it from the left , which is only overturned directly before the mouth. Then it follows the Bachtelstrasse to the southwest and is divided into two lines. The southern one comes to the surface for around 25 meters at Schlössli and merges with the other at the fire station.

The brook now follows the Bachtelstrasse underground , then the Regensdorferstrasse for a short time, followed by the Schlüechtistrasse . At the level of the Weiningen primary school, the stream re-emerges from a gravel trap . It flows straight to the southeast through the Grosswis , then to the southwest through the Bifängli . There is a bend to the northwest through Trüebbach and Schlüechti , where it crosses under the Schlüechtistrasse . There is a bend to the southwest to the Baderströssli, which now follows the stream on the left, and then again to the northwest. The Länggenbach crosses the eponymous Längg and passes under Dietikonerstrasse . This is followed by Hargart and the crossing under the Bettliacherweg and shortly afterwards at Stälzers Raben that of the Baderströssli , which now follows the brook on the right. It now runs in the Rugg and a little later reaches another gravel trap before being overturned again and directed to the southwest. At the same time, it crosses under the Ruggweg before it flows through a former gravel pit in which the stream feeds several ponds.

After the revitalized gravel pit, the Länggenbach is overturned again and passed under the Limmattalstrasse and the A1 . It reappears at the Richi waste disposal center and continues to flow through the Im Riesentobel area towards the southwest. The Risitobel , which today is almost completely filled in, used to stretch here . It crosses the wooded undercut slope Muniwis , an old Limmatwindung before the vinous part of Fahrweid achieved and now flows through the settlement area. The brook crosses under Brunaustrasse and immediately afterwards reaches the municipal boundary to Geroldswil, where it flows westwards and crosses under Lenggenbachstrasse and Fahrweidstrasse . After crossing under the Giessackerstrasse , the Länggenbach leaves the settlement area again and reaches another former and wooded bend in the Limmat, where it also takes up the outflow of an oxbow river from the left. Here, at the Dornau sports ground , it turns to the northwest and runs within the former Limmat bend to its mouth.

In this case, the stream passes through the sewage pumping station Länggenbach , from where the waste water from Geroldswil, Oetwil and Weiningen to ARA Dietikon - Limmattalstrasse be pumped. This is followed by a bridge on the Dornaustrasse and shortly afterwards the footbridge of the Limmatuferweg , which bridges the stream directly in front of the mouth. Finally, the Länggenbach flows at 381  m above sea level. M. Coming from the right and southeast into the Limmat opposite the Grien Island , which shortly afterwards joins the underwater channel of the Dietikon power plant.

Catchment area

The catchment area of the Länggenbach measures 6.03 km², of which 35.7% is wooded area , 31.7% agricultural area, 31% settlement area, 1.1% unproductive area and 0.5% water area. The highest point is at 631  m above sea level. M. at the highest point of the Altberg, the average height is 456  m above sea level. M. It extends mainly over the communities Weiningen and Geroldswil, smaller areas are in Oetwil on the Limmat , Regensdorf and Unterengstringen .

It covers part of the Altberger Südhang, roughly from its highest point to Folenmoos between Weiningen and Regensdorf. It also includes most of the northern slope of the Hasleren and all of its eastern part. There is also a small area on the western slope of the Gubrists in the catchment area of the Länggenbach.

In the north and northeast lies the Furttal , through which the Furtbach flows, and in the west, in the Wisentäli, are the catchment areas of Chräbsenbach and Dorfbach , all of which also flow into the Limmat.

After an insecticide got into the Länggenbach on July 6, 2017, hundreds of noble crabs and all the fish in the creek died.

natural reserve

The Länggenbach flows through and drains several protected areas. On the upper reaches is the Langenmoos wetland biotope , which is registered in the federal inventory of the fens of national importance and in the nature and landscape protection inventory , in the lower reaches the brook runs through the nature reserve Dornau / Brunau of supra-municipal importance. In the catchment area there are several areas in nature and landscape protection inventory are entered, the dry location Bruederberg that Altberg , the Hasler plateau , the dry location Rain that Endmoränenwälle of Schlieren stage , the large gravel pit in Lower Wood , the wetland backwaters in Au and the Limmataltlauf and Prallhang Muniwis .

In addition, there are the areas of the ice age meltwater channel Langenmoos , the ridge section between Altberg and Pfaffenbrunnen , the stream in the Forbuel forest , boulder on the Hasleren plateau , the Wuermzeitliche terminal moraine waves and the Limmataltaltlauf in Dornau, registered in the geological-geomorphological inventory . The Altberg and the Muniwis Prallhang are entered in both inventories.

flora

In the upper reaches of the Hasleren, the Länggenbach flows through a short section of the typical woodruff - beech forest with grove and after the large pond some with lungwort . This is followed by typical sedges at the cemetery - Bacheschenwald and again Waldmeister-Buchenwald at the Muniwis Prallhang . On the other hand, two-leaf mixed ash forest grows on waterlogged soils on the lower reaches of the altar arms . In the Langenmoos wetlands , pond roses , water lilies , sedges, meadowsweet , yellow loosestrife and the common loosestrife grow among others .

Frequently occurring neophytes along the course of the stream include the glandular balsam on the upper course and the Canadian goldenrod , which has also spread at the mouth, and on the lower course the giant hogweed , the Japanese knotweed and the narrow-leaved ragwort .
