LagunAir Lineas Aereas was a Spanish regional airline based in León .

history

The airline, which was originally owned by the Leon Airport Consortium, began its flight operations on September 29, 2003 with a flight from Leon to Barcelona's El Prat Airport. Flight operations had to be temporarily suspended in January 2005 due to technical problems and mismanagement at Leon Airport. In February 2005 the company was bought by the AGELCO Group, a group of investors from Leon. The investor and the airline received strong support from the local government.

Under the new owner, the company was reorganized and tried to develop a long-term strategy to make LagunAir the leading regional airline of Castilla-Leon. E-ticket was launched in May 2005 and several agreements were signed with several major Spanish travel companies. A capital increase of EUR 14 million enabled the existing Saab turboprop fleet to be replaced by Embraer jets in order to set up scheduled services from other Castilla-Leons airports.

Although flight operations were resumed on March 1, 2005, Lagunair officially announced on October 8, 2008 on the website that flight operations will be suspended from October 9, 2008 for the time being. The reason given for this was the difficult economic situation in the aviation industry. All 150 employees were also laid off from the company.

Destinations

LagunAir operated regular services to 19 cities on the Spanish mainland, including Barcelona, Madrid, Salamanca and Valencia as well as to Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza. The main base was Leon Airport with hubs in Burgos Airport, Valladolid Airport and Salamanca, from where the Castilla-Leon region was connected with major Spanish cities.
