The Johannisthal / Adlershof landscape park ( pronunciation ? / I ) is located in the Johannisthal district of Berlin between Groß-Berliner-Damm, Hermann-Dorner-Allee and Wrightallee on the former site of the Johannisthal airfield . It should not be confused with the significantly smaller Johannisthaler Park, a few hundred meters further north-west . Audio file / audio sample

The outer area of ​​the park area is designated as a landscape protection area (LSG 48), the central area as a nature reserve (NSG 35). Both protected areas are listed under the name "Former Johannisthal Airfield". A circular path runs through the park along the border between LSG and NSG.

The 65 hectare park essentially covers the site of the former airfield. After flight operations at Germany's first powered airfield ceased, the area began to be carefully renatured in 1996. It is involved in the development of the neighboring district of Adlershof , which has been expanded as a location for technology, media and science for around 15 years. The green areas are intended to "bring nature conservation, play and relaxation into harmony". This should be done by means of a triad: Inside the park, a nature reserve of around 26 hectares is designated. An elevated circular path was created around this area, which is bordered by gabions . This approximately 2 km long circular route leads to a total of 30 differently designed “city chambers”. B. can be used as a skate track , playground and lawn or as a beach volleyball field. There is access to the park via so-called “green joints” in the northeast, northwest and south. The entire complex was designed by the Berlin landscape architect Gabriele G. Kiefer , who was able to prevail against five other offices within an appraisal procedure of the district. In July 2018 it became known that 531 trees in the landscape park had died of thirst. The dead trees were felled around ten years after they were planted. A combination of the spring drought and difficult soil conditions (30 to 70 centimeters deep mixture of rubble, asphalt residues and valley sands) leaves the trees with little chance of survival.

The area is part of the Berlin glacial valley and therefore has the nutrient-poor sandy soil typical of the region. In the nature reserve, a dry sand grassland with 245 wild plants developed, for example the heather carnation , meadow sage , the dwarf snail clover or the panicle knapweed . In a few more nutrient-rich zones, for example , the adder's head , the yarrow and the scabiosa knapweed have settled. In order to control the spread of the plants, cattle and sheep graze in some areas .

In addition to plant around 170 are in the nature reserve to date bees - and piercing wasp species detected, including grave wasps , sand and the Great wool bees . Around 100 ground beetles and around 170 species of spiders also inhabit the area. The air is, among others, field and crested larks , the corn bunting and the whinchat populated.

Others

In the summer of 2012, two schoolgirls were seriously injured while playing by a boulder weighing around half a ton that rolled onto the two girls from a slope. The two girls were trapped, but were freed by passers-by and a participating teacher. The reason for the accident was assumed that the erratic blocks were washed away by rainwater.
