history
The first settlement on the site of today's urban area was built in 1640.
In Lexington, on April 19, 1775, at the Battle of Lexington and Concord on the Lexington Battle Green, the first shot that ushered in the American Revolutionary War was fired . It went down in history as the phrase The Shot Heard Around the World .
