Lily of the Valley (English for lily of the valley ) is a German singer-songwriter music group from Bingen and Frankfurt am Main . They combine musical elements from folk , chanson , pop , ethno world music and rock .

History & origin

The initiator Daniela Kaul (born 1972, Berlin-Charlottenburg ), the oldest of three sisters, wrote her own songs at the age of 13. In 1988 Daniela Kaul began to play her own compositions on the street, including in Dublin , Prague and Rome .

Lily of the Valley was founded in Idar-Oberstein in 1991 when singer and guitarist Daniela Kaul composed two songs for a public performance at the peace festival of the local Göttenbach-Gymnasium . The songs were performed together with her two sisters Anke and Lily, as well as with her friend Eva Risch.

With a successful first performance, further appearances and concert inquiries immediately followed. As a result, the original instrumentation of guitar and percussion on drums , bass , electric guitar and violin ( transverse and Recorder ) expanded.

By 1993 Lily of the Valley was already performing at events in small clubs and at open-air festivals such as B. the Lott Festival , with which they were able to expand their brand awareness. Almost all the pieces that were played were composed at this point in time.

In May 1994 the musicians won 3rd place in the SWF3 Rookies Young Talent competition. In August of the same year, they won a video production advertised monthly on the SWF3 channel.

Lily of the Valley then gave three concerts in Berlin and played in the famous Berlin club Quasimodo .

In autumn 1995 the musicians met Nikolai Tomas, the singer of the band Poems for Laila, at a concert in Frankfurt . In November they were hired by Poems for Laila as the opening act for the Germany tour.

Further appearances throughout Germany followed from 1996 to 1998. Among other things, the band performed in 1998 in Düsseldorf at a UNICEF gala.

The first album Shine On was released on CD in 1998. This was followed by appearances in Austria, France and other countries.

In 1999, Lily of the Valley was selected by the jury of the German Music Council and Jeunesses Musicales to represent Germany at the international music crossroads festival in Mozambique , Africa .

The trip to Africa in April – May gives them the opportunity to give eight more concerts and two radio interviews in the capital, Maputo .
