Lippels Traum is a German children's film by Lars Büchel from 2009 . The script by Paul Maar and Ulrich Limmer is based on Paul Maar 's novel of the same name .

The novel was filmed under the same name in 1991 .

action

Philipp, called Lippel, lives with his single father, the gourmet chef Otto Mattenheim. When he has to go to America on business for some time , the new housekeeper is supposed to take care of Lippel. Frau Jakob is very strict and has little understanding for the boy. The next day two new classmates from Turkey , Arslan and his sister Hamide, join Lippel's class. At home, Lippel begins to read the book of fairy tales that his father left him with when he left, but Frau Jakob takes it away from him.

Inspired by reading, Lippel fantasizes about an oriental dream world at night : his father transforms into king, Arslan and Hamide into king's children, and wife Jakob into the king's evil sister-in-law. With an intrigue she succeeds in getting the king banished his children from the city and sending them into the desert . She secretly pays the guards to kill the prince and his sister in the belief that she will then become queen herself. Lippel saves the children from the guards and returns with them to the palace, where the aunt has already ascended the throne. The rightful king is released from dungeon and his sister-in-law is sent into the desert.

In reality, too, everything turns out for the better: The two classmates help Lippel to chase the nanny out of the house with the help of spiders and other crawling animals that she is afraid of. Frau Jakob had already hoped that Lippel's father would marry her. Instead, he marries Serafina, his friendly employee from the restaurant, with whom Lippel gets along very well.

Differences to the original

  • In the film, in contrast to the book and the first film adaptation, Lippel only has a father and no mother, as she (presumably) has already passed away.
  • Here Lippel's father does not go to Vienna , but to the USA.
  • Ms. Jeschke does not exist either.
  • Arslan is not called Asslam in the dream, but also Arslan and only does not have to be silent for three days, not seven.
  • The woman who takes Lippel, Arslan and Hamide in is the landlord's daughter, while in the book she was his wife. In addition, she falls in love with the king in the end and the two marry.

Reviews

“Entertaining film adaptation of the children's book by Paul Maar with lots of attractive show values and effects that are solidly entertaining. Nonetheless, the film uses the beautiful novel idea that dreams can help to better understand and cope with reality, has little capital and focuses more on adventure, slapstick and clothes. "

“Lippel's dream doesn't quite manage to actually fill the analogy of dream and real with fantasy. The construction appears all too mechanical with the help of repetitions and parallels that make the film lose tension. Lippel's dream can entertain warm-heartedly with this proverbial sleepiness and the contrasts between the world and the opposite world, but unfortunately it is not always captivating or fascinating.
