List of German Masters
The Deutschmeister was the Landmeister of the Teutonic Order in Germany. From 1309, with the change of the Grand Master's seat from Venice to Marienburg , the friars in Austria , Bohemia , Hungary , Spain , Italy , Armenia , Sicily and Achaia were placed under the protection of the German Masters.
After the secularization of the order under the last Grand Master Margrave Albrecht of Brandenburg residing in Prussia in 1525 , the German Master Walther von Cronberg was enfeoffed with the dignity of the Grand Master and Prussia at the Augsburg Reichstag in 1530 by Emperor Charles V.
Since then, the head of the Teutonic Order has held the title of Hoch- und Deutschmeister .
