List of cultural assets in Biel / Bienne (Neustadt)

The list of cultural assets in Biel / Bienne (Neustadt) contains all objects in the city center of Biel / Bienne in the canton of Bern that, in accordance with the Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict , are part of the federal law of June 20, 2014 on the protection of cultural property armed conflicts and the Ordinance of October 29, 2014 on the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict . Objects are listed in the districts of Neustadt Nord and Neustadt Süd .

Objects in categories A and B are completely included in the list, objects in category C are currently missing (as of January 1, 2018). Among other monuments protected objects are found, the "worthy of protection" in the canton of Bern Bauinventar than are listed.

Built in 1935, the two elongated, column-free assembly halls under shed roofs are considered a pioneering achievement in modern factory construction in Switzerland. After the abandonment of automobile production and the renovation in 1976, they are used as a Coop shopping center and parking garage. Attached to it is an office wing with an elegant stair tower and an unconventionally shaped sun roof.

From 1919 to 1923, designed by Moser and Schürch built reception building of the laid to its present location station. The neoclassical building has an extremely broad building volume with strongly structured artificial stone cladding. Mighty Doric columns accentuate the main entrance. A cycle of frescoes by Philippe Robert in the 1st class waiting room.

Commercial building built by Hans Bösiger in the historicism style in 1895/96 . The facades, designed to impress, especially the one facing the central square, are of outstanding design quality. They consist of a colossal order over a high base zone (on the square side with a round arch niche) and are decorated with plastic jewelry and balcony grilles.

The congress center, built by Max Schlup from 1961 to 1966 , is Biel's modern landmark. At the time of opening, it had the largest suspended roof in Europe. It serves as a congress center and concert building, as well as a 25-meter swimming pool. Various offices, including parts of the city administration, are housed in the associated tower.

Monumental residential and commercial building in the Beaux Arts style, built from 1899 to 1901 by Léon and Frantz Fulpius for the control office for gold and silver goods in the watch industry . The four-winged complex with an atrium is a steel structure, partly with masonry behind richly instrumented facade cladding made of Savonnières limestone .

Stately early baroque building under a mansard hipped roof. A central risalit with a finely graduated relief, a round gable and an open staircase rises above the basement made of embossed limestone blocks . Inside there is a sophisticated vestibule and grisaille ceiling paintings .
