List of shared space projects

The list of shared space projects gives an overview of existing traffic systems or those in the planning process that correspond to the shared space planning philosophy .

definition

According to Gerlach et al. Can be referred to in the narrower sense as shared space if the following characteristics are met:

  • Application of the mixing principle in main village streets, local business streets or main business streets in sections and preferably in square areas.
  • Inclusion of as many traffic subsystems as possible in the mixed principle - but at least bicycle and pedestrian traffic on unseparated areas.
  • Use of the area by the traffic subsystems motor vehicle traffic, bicycle and pedestrian traffic, possibly also public transport.
  • Avoidance of stationary traffic in the area.
  • Largely avoiding signage.

Austria

In Austria, in addition to the primarily inner-city pedestrian zone (Section 53 Paragraph 9a / b StVO ), there are primarily suburban residential streets (Section 53 9c / d StVO) and the broadly applicable meeting zone (Section 53  9e / f StVO), which is still free of traffic regulations widely practiced in the 1980s. Some early examples of pioneering projects for the encounter zones (before the introduction of road traffic law in 2013) in more prominent locations are:
