List of the paintings in the Gemäldegalerie that were probably burned in the Flakbunker Berlin-Friedrichshain
This list of the paintings of the Gemäldegalerie presumably burned in the Flakbunker Berlin-Friedrichshain shows the works of art by well-known painters who were probably destroyed forever and who burned at the end of the Second World War .
background
Between March 11 and April 7, 1945, immediately before the Battle of Berlin , 1,225 paintings from the Gemäldegalerie Berlin were stored undamaged in the Kaiseroda-Merkers salt mine , while 434 mostly large-format paintings that remained in the apparently safe Flakbunker Friedrichshain were or were destroyed by fires are lost. Occasionally, individual, smaller pictures from the holdings of the Berlin gallery appeared later. But they were more indicative of individual looters than of being transported away by Soviet troops . After the opening of Russian depots after the collapse of the Soviet Union , no evidence was found there, so that one must finally expect the loss of the pictures. In 2016, 59 statues that were formerly in the Bode Museum in Berlin were found in the Pushkin Museum in Moscow.
