The list of international treaties and agreements negotiated or signed in Switzerland gives a chronological overview of some of the most important international agreements, conventions, peace, disarmament and other treaties that have been negotiated or signed in Switzerland .

The good offices play in foreign policy of neutral Switzerland has always been an important part. Today, however, Switzerland does not limit itself to making its territory available to conflicting parties as a place of negotiation ("hotelier function"), but also offers itself as a mediator (conflict mediation).

A particularly large number of agreements were signed in Geneva , Switzerland's most international city.

It is an international environmental agreement that has introduced environmentally friendly waste management and regulates the control of the cross-border transport of hazardous waste. The agreement entered into force on May 5, 1992.

    • Geneva Yugoslavia Conference (from 1992): Under the leadership of the UN and the EU, the international conference to resolve the conflict in the Balkans was opened in Geneva in 1992 . The negotiations with the civil war parties led u. a. on the Dayton Peace Treaty , which was signed in Paris on December 14, 1995.
    • Treaty of Lugano (1996): On September 6, 1996, the head of the Federal Department of Transport and Energy and the Federal Minister of Transport of the Federal Republic of Germany signed a state treaty in Lugano, in which they committed themselves to the requirements for efficient rail transport between Switzerland and the Federal Republic Germany, especially with regard to the NEAT railway-Alpine transversal.

    • Reunification of Cyprus (2004): Talks on the reunification of Cyprus under the leadership of UN Secretary General Kofi Annan on the Bürgenstock do not lead to an agreement.

    • Maritime Labor Convention (2006) of the International Labor Organization (2006): The agreement contains basic (employment and social) rights of seafarers. It was adopted on February 23, 2006 by the ILO General Conference in Geneva and entered into force on August 20, 2013.
    • Lugano Convention (end of 2007): The Lugano Convention on Jurisdiction and the Enforcement of Judgments in Civil and Commercial Matters - LugÜ regulates the jurisdiction, recognition and enforcement of judgments between the member states of the European Union, Switzerland, Norway and Iceland. It aims to ensure that national judgments are equally valid.
    • Montreux Document (2008): The Montreux Document of September 17, 2008 is the first international document to provide an overview of the international legal obligations of private military and security companies involved in armed conflict.

    • Rapprochement between Armenia and Turkey (2009): The protocol between Turkey and Armenia signed on October 10, 2009 in Zurich provides the basis for diplomatic relations and the opening of borders. Since the ratification of these protocols was suspended by the Armenian President in April 2010, the rapprochement between the two countries has come to a standstill. The Turkish parliament had previously suspended ratification of this protocol.

    • Agreement on the destruction of chemical weapons in Syria (2013): The foreign ministers of the USA John Kerry and of Russia Sergei Lavrov agree in Geneva on an agreement on the destruction of chemical weapons in Syria.
    • Geneva Conference on Iran's Nuclear Program (2013) : The foreign ministers of Iran and the so-called P5 + 1 powers (the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, i.e. China, France, Great Britain, Russia and the United States of America plus Germany) in one Joint Plan of Action (JPA).

    • Nuclear deal with Iran (April 2015): In the nuclear dispute, Iran, the UN veto powers and Germany agree on key points for a final agreement in Lausanne. Iran undertakes to subject its nuclear enrichment program to a system of restrictions and controls. Furthermore, all nuclear activities in the country are subject to strict controls by the International Atomic Energy Agency for up to 25 years. In return, the West is lifting its economic sanctions. The details are to be negotiated by the end of June. Talks took place in Montreux in March.
