This list contains the prefabricated residential areas built in GDR times in what is now Thuringia . Many of them were created as part of the implementation of the 1973 housing program .

In Thuringia there are prefabricated building areas in numerous cities, often in places with more than 5,000 inhabitants. These mostly arose in connection with the establishment of new combines in the vicinity. Today the prefabricated building areas are struggling with high vacancy rates, especially in the larger cities. Since 1990, measures have been taken to improve the living environment in many places. They include renovation, demolition and dismantling. Nevertheless, the prefabricated building areas are often the social hot spots of the cities.

The largest prefabricated building areas in Thuringia are or were in GDR times Erfurt-Nord (up to 50,000 inhabitants), Erfurt-Südost (up to 40,000 inhabitants), Jena - Lobeda (up to 35,000 inhabitants), Gera - Lusan (up to 45,000 inhabitants) and most of them Former district town of Suhl consisting of prefabricated buildings (up to 55,000 inhabitants). The largest prefabricated building areas in Thuringia were only half the size of the largest in the GDR, which (for example in Halle-Neustadt ) could accommodate up to 100,000 inhabitants. Other places, which largely consist of prefabricated building areas, include the city of Suhl, Leinefelde , Hermsdorf and Seebach . There the residential areas emerged after the establishment of large industrial companies in the village, in Leinefelde this was the worsted yarn spinning mill, in Hermsdorf the ceramic works and in Seebach the clock works.
